Organic Hair Care is a growing trend amongst the upper middle class. Shoppers have become more educated and made the decision to support green living in a permanent way. Todays commercial soaps and shampoos have many harsh and toxic chemicals in their formulations. This site exists to help educate people about the effects of the chemicals and to show them great organic hair products to replace them with. Should you come across a great product or have a great story, please send contributions to admin@organichaircare.org

Leek woman with natural hair. If that's not organic, I do not know what is.

Organic Hair Care Information

Organic hair care is a buzzword that sells shampoos and conditioners. Take the brand Herbal Essences. It sounds organic like, but in fact it has more of the harsh chemicals for the body than many other brands. What we are finding is that companies care about the bottom line and they know that consumers are not sophisticated enough to know what is and isn't good for them to use.

Do the Shampoo and Condition Chemicals Hurt Your Hair?

If someone has been through an illness, they will sometimes get quite sensitive to the chemicals in regular shampoo and conditioners. Basically, it is obvious that the chemicals are toxic, but most people can handle it. What isn't known is how it will effect your long term health. It is known that the chemicals go to the liver for detoxification and can also cause damage to the cornea of the eye.

How Can a Consumer Find Good Organic Hair Care?

The first thing to do is to educate yourself on the ingredients of shampoos. Avoid sodium laureth sulfate and ammonium laureth sulfate. In addition, if you can't pronounce it, then avoid it. Look for shampoos with the least ingredients. Do not purchase hair care items based on their latherability. The reason for many of the harsh chemicals is to make it lather up well and appear to be cleaning better.
